ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE NATIONAL RENTAL ASSISTANCE SCHEME

Always complaining about the ridiculous advance payment demands from property owners? Worry no more, the government of Ghana through the Ministry of Works and Housing has finally heard the cries of the average Ghanaian and has come out with something exciting.

On the 31st of January 2023, the National Rental Assistance Scheme was launched. Its purpose is to aid Ghanaians to pay or renew their rent and protect them from property owners’ exploitations.

The scheme is here to ensure that rent payments or renewals become easier and more conducive for each Ghanaian hence the scheme when an individual applies will check the property and pay for the rent to the landlord on behalf of the individual. However, this is not free, beneficiaries are required to pay back the scheme on a monthly basis with some interest to match the tenure of their rent.

What you need in other to enjoy the scheme;

  • You must be a Ghanaian

  • You must have a valid Identification Card

  • You must be able to prove a verifiable income document



How processing is done;

  • Submit an application with 3 months’ pay slips, 3 months’ bank statements or mobile money statements, 2 forms of identification cards, and an amount of 100 Ghana cedis application processing fee.

  • In 5-10 business days, your application and supporting documents will be verified to determine your affordability and ability to pay back.

  • After you have been approved by the National Rental Assistance Scheme, your landlord will be contacted by them to inspect the property and also make payment on your behalf.

  • You are now a tenant; all you have to do is carry your bags to your new home.
